The Royal Visit by Denis Ryan
The Royal Visit a song written by Denis Ryan
Denis Ryan has been collecting folk songs for over forty years. He is a member of the well-known acapella group "Garland". Who can be heard playing in different venues around Ireland. Garland sing a mixture of irish and English folk songs and are probabaly best known for their renditions of sea shanties.
The songs in this Dingle Trilogy were written over the last years to mark small milestones on the Dingel Peninsual. The song Fort Pieces of Silver revisitis the filming of "Far and Away", while the song Plenty Tears a Flowing parodies the ongoing attempts to commercialise the Blasket Islands. As far as we know the Queen of England never came to Dingle, but if she did The Royal Visit describes what might have happened.
